Akito - TKR
The track I am making the music video for has a personal link. The track is titled TKR by Akito. He is a good friend of mine, which is also useful because its easy to see that we are on the same page with regards to how I represent his music. He runs a record label based in London called Sub Skank but the track itself will be released later this year on Tight Knit Records.

Dramatic Lighting
Through my visual research into music videos and general audio/visual presentations I found dramatic lighting to have a very powerful and significant role in how music is interpreted and displayed.
Abstract Structures
What do I mean by 'abstract'?
I appreciate I probably should be careful with how I use the word I have described this visual inspiration category as, because it can be used in many instances. When I refer to 'abstract' structures, I mean structures which seem to have been formed naturally as the result of another force rather than planned or designed for a practical use. One example would be a glass of water, the glass isn't abstract, it is designed and produced CONTINUE
Why are abstract structures important in this context?
Abstract forms tend to play an important part when visually representing music. These include natural textures such as water and liquids. Sounds in music often remind me as distinctive, objectively recognisable things; objects, please ect ect, but a lot of sound doesn't translate that way especially when its a new sound, something completley unfamiliar to myself. This is where abstract forms come in, they can visually represent something that doesn't sound like a specific thing.

Every theme I my research had introduced me to for my video could be split into two main categories which in themselves are also important themes/requirements for the video; light and reflection. Of course, I appreciate that every image anyone has ever seen is a result of light and reflection so I guess they are two pretty good umbrella terms.

Self Evaluation
Overall, I am very confident of my project’s success. I stuck to my brief well; The track had a personal link to myself and I feel I visualised it to a aesthetically professional standard. The video I made will be the official video of the track which will be released online and vinyl in the next couple of months. I have sent the video to executives at Thump (Vice), FACT, Mixmag and Trap; four of the widest reaching underground/electronic music magazines in the world and it Iv’e been told it is already being considered to be one of FACT’s top videos of the month (a feature they do on their website). This all suggests it was successful in the second half of the brief which was to release it in a way that people all around the world would be able to see it.
I accept that one main critique of my project would be that it lacked meaning of some sort, that it was somehow missing a deeper context. It didn’t ‘say’ anything, It didn’t have an political/socio-political agenda for example. True, this may have made it more interesting or relevant to some people but not to be and that would be a complete abstraction from the original point of the brief, I kept it as personal as possible, even though what stimulates me creatively may only seem skin-deep.
I feel my research was adequate. My online sketchbook is rich with aesthetic research. I also studied other music videos that inspired me, analysed what I felt worked for them and how I could translate that analysis to my own work. I’m pleased with this because usually my research is purely aesthetic and this seems to be a great improvement.
I am confident that I really gave this project my all, I’ve been working on it solid for three weeks and focused on nothing else. I find I work better in this way.
