Varieties of Objects with something in Common
The Making of the Blue head
The aim of the following piece is to show how someones personality and inderviduality can be consumed by the materialistic goods they own limiting peoples' chances to truly be themselves.
Using this concept I got objects that are usually desirable for a male of my age and in-keeping with the theme of objects that were different but all had something in common I decided to paint them all the same colour.
I started by painting each object in white acrylic as a base coat as shown in the picture on the left, i then proceeded by covering the with a layer of the same shade of blue acrylic.
Finally I arranged them all together so it looked as-if they were merging with the head and photographed the finished piece in the studio using a manual setting and lights.

Experimenting with Colours Meeting:

I was inspired by the way colour was used in these pieces to add another dimension to the definition of the subject involved. It adds more than one way of viewing the subject distorting it slightly. I intend to do a similar thing with my final piece taking objects and using colour to distort how you see them and see what effect that creates in peoples's attitudes towards them.

'Battles' - EP Covers
'Battles' are the American experimental rock band playing under the warp records (http://warp.net/records/battles/dross-glop-4-announced) Label.
The album covers for Battles were created by Dave Konopka who took a rather simplistic stance in explaining his work for the band writing that "The artwork is a sculpture that I did, I'm even reluctant to say sculpture... it's a sculpture that I made during the making of the album and essentially it's a big pink blob, of nothing. I wanted to represent a solid document that would be the album, that is a controlled atmosphere and have something that is completely organic that you can't even control the way things are going to happen, and at the end of the day it was more evident that we couldn't control anything other than the way things were going to happen when it came to making this album. So the actual artwork was just this blob... I made this controlled square one that didn't look as good but the organic blob that just fell into place and then congealed and solidified, was the total proper way for us to go for the album."
If i were to do response pieces or pieces inspired by his work I would get objects, solid or food based and poor watered down icing sugar or melted ice cream tainted with primary coloured food colouring.

How I intend to expand my Project in my Final Piece
- Get everyday objects with interesting shapes, EG chairs, fans, kettles
- Cover them in plaster distorting the shape using different cosistencies and textures depending on how much water I mix the plaster with.
- Inspired by the 'Battles' EP covers, drench them in acyrlic paint using primary colours
- Photograph them in the studio using full lights and a completly blank background, no flash, short shuter speed, tripod.
- Make sure the objects are on top of a surface such as a table but remember to take a picture of the background with nothing on it in the exact same position first so that you can open the image of the object in photoshop and layer that picture over using a layer mask to hide the object my final peice is standing on, giving the illusion that it is flouting.
- depending on the amount of time remaining, either mount the pictures on A4 and put them in light boxes which i will make myself or send them off to the photo company to each be transformed into A3

The Making of my Final Piece
First started by selecting six different objects, then I covered them in plaster paris.
I covered them in a thin layer covering the general surface area of the objects and another when the plaster had dried more distorting the shape of the original object.
I continued by watering down acrylic paint in cups and drooping it over the objects.

Multicoloured Plaster Heads
Self Assessment
On the whole I think my final outcome was successful and satisfactory.
My initial concern was that it would blindly trail away from my pervious main photo of the blue head considering that in the final stages of this project it is good to develop and refine something you have already created or conceptualised without creating something random and off-topic when compared to the more recent exam project work proceeding. It still keeps within the concept of peoples' identities being distorted and taken over by objects in the way that this fake head is being distorted and reshaped by the colour, plaster and other objects around it o 'them'.
This final piece is inspired by the album art by 'Battles' whom i had researched recently. My main objective for this piece is that it would embody the sense or organised chaos that those pieces do but based around my previous pieces throughout the exam project. In conclusion I conclusion I think my final outcome was successful because it achieved this key objective.

Dice
I attached these pictures to a glass cube I made and this is what it looked like:
Self Assessment
My criteria for this piece was much more basic and less ambitious than the other extension of my final outcome; I wanted a way of displaying my photography which inspired my ultimate final piece in a more physical media than just a frame and was successful as it achieved this and i am very pleased with the quality of presentation. However, it would be ideal for all sides of the 'dice' to have more variation and possibly additional photos taken on the day of the controlled assessment as it would show a more extensive form of development from the picture sit was inspired by.
